Ukraine’s Paralympic team finishes Rio Games with 117 medals

As it stands, Nigeria will most likely finish the Rio Paralympics as the highest ranked African team. Ihar Boki of Belarus won gold in 56.68 while Ukraine’s Iaroslav Denysenko finished second in 59.02.

Amalia Perez of Mexico was however successful as her 130 kg lift earned her the gold medal, as well as new Paralympic and world records in the event.

Her outing in Rio is the fifth Paralympic appearance, having made her debut in Athens Greece where she won gold.

Her GB team-mate Crystal Lane took bronze, her first medal of the Games.

The British team are second only to China on the official medal table.

Six of the athletes broke the World Records (WR) in their events – in some cases they did it twice or thrice and won gold.

Three equestrian titles helped take Great Britain to 55 gold medals on Friday’s ninth day of the Rio Paralympics.

Ugwunwa emerged as the top gun in the women’s F54 Javelin throw.

Victory for Paul Blake in the T36 400 metres saw ParalympicsGB take their 50th gold medal of the games, while there was further success on the track for Hannah Cockroft in the T34 800m.

Britain’s most decorated female Paralympian, 38, won her third gold of the Games and her 14th Paralympic gold from both cycling and swimming.

As of the last day of the Paralympics, the Ukrainian team is taking the third place in overall medal ranking right after China and the UK.

Veteran Iyiazi at 42 won Nigeria’s final medal in Rio and it could also be her final having seen it all since making her debut show at the Paralympics over a decade ago.This is Iyiazi’s fifth appearance at the Paralympics and her fourth medal.
