A longtime neighbor confirmed that the couple who lived in the home were relatives of former NASCAR racer Robby Gordon.

The Orange County coroner’s office identified the deceased as Robert Gordon, 68, and Sharon Gordon, 57.

Racer Dale Earnhardt Jr., who has won multiple NASCAR championships, tweeted that he was praying for the Gordon family. Gordon says his family is in shock. Calls to Robby Gordon were not immediately returned Thursday.

He added, “I’d like everybody to understand this is very tough”. “I grew up on this property my whole life”. “I learned everything about motorsports out in this tiny little barn over here”.

The father and stepmother of former NASCAR driver Robby Gordon were found dead in their Southern California home on Wednesday. Police have not released their identities or details about their relationship.

“I’m so sad and I can’t believe it”, Robby Gordon said upon learning of the deaths.

He went on: “The truth will come out, what went down there”.

Robby Gordon said his father instilled in him a passion for motorsports and competition.

The elder Gordon had three daughters, one of whom, Beccy, is the wife of 2014 Indianapolis 500 victor Ryan Hunter-Reay.

“I want to thank all of our friends in the racing community, not only the auto racing community but the horse racing community, and their incredible outpouring of support and prayers”. “And I was fortunate enough to do something different”.

Robby Gordon now races in an off-road series he created in 2013 called Speed Energy Formula Off-Road, following the path of his father.

Gordon, 47, is a former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver and owner.

Gordon said his planned Robby Gordon Speed Energy Stadium Super Trucks racing event will go on this weekend as part of the Sand Sports Super Show at the Orange County Fairgrounds.

Robby Gordon’s off-road racing team will be in Costa Mesa this weekend.

Residents in the upscale neighborhood shared stories about the couple’s friendly ways — swapping jokes with neighbors, gifting tickets to racing events and delivering feed personally to local equestrians.
