He said the people of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have always handled the situation with sensitivity and urged the people to display sensitivity, and also keep in mind their civic responsibilities.

Prime minister Narendra Modi Tuesday expressed pain over the developments in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu over the Cauvery water dispute and appealed for peace while underlining that violence can not provide solution to any problem.

On Monday, police fired at a group pf protesters who set on fire a police jeep and motorbike killing one protester and wounding another in Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka state, said police officer Madhukar Narote. The company’s managing director, Rajesh Natarajan, said almost 40 buses were burned or damaged, PTI reported.
The minister also appealed to media to exercise restraint while reporting the incidents from the two states.
Farmers and pro-Kannada outfit activists have been protesting in various parts of Karnataka since 6 September against the SC’s direction.
Meanwhile, PTI reported that a woman television journalist and her cameraman were assaulted and punched when violence broke out in Bengaluru.
Expressing the state’s difficulty in executing Supreme Court’s order, the CM assured people of Cauvery basin area of providing enough drinking water.
Central forcesThe Centre rushed ten companies comprising 1,000 personnel of the special anti-riot paramilitary force Rapid Action Force to Karnataka to tackle the violent situation arising out of the raging Cauvery water sharing dispute.
