Rams coach Jeff Fisher says QB Case Keenum will remain the starter

The plan is apparently to sit him for most of the season, but now that they have seen first-hand what Case Keenum is capable of, they may decide to give some playing time the quarterback that they mortgaged their future for.

But the Rams’ offense fell apart. They rotated Gerald Hodges and Ray-Ram Armstrong at inside linebacker Monday in the heart of their 3-4 defence next to Bowman.

The Rams will get a chance to redeem themselves in front of their home fans, but it won’t be easy, as they’ll go up against the division rival Seattle Seahawks this Sunday.

“That wasn’t what we expected, certainly not what I expected for the first game back in L.A.”, coach Jeff Fisher said. “They just do it well”. Brockers, a first-round pick in 2012, is in the final year of his rookie contract, which the Rams extended last April when they picked up his fifth-year option.

On an utterly embarrassing night for the Rams, Keenum’s performance stood at the top of the list of issues that need to get fixed. The bottom line is that the Rams offense was bad, like really bad, and something needs to change.

Fisher saw several reasons for the Rams’ offensive struggles, largely centering on their inability to establish a running game. The Rams had 56 rushing yards late in the fourth quarter. Goff was inactive as the third QB for the Rams and Garnett is buried on the depth chart in San Francisco.

From there on, it was mostly running out the clock, watching the Rams misfire and meander, and celebrating the first step for the 49ers, Chip Kelly, and the practical point of being better than the terrible opponent in front of you.

“Their commitment was to stop the run with Todd, and then try to get us to make the plays outside”, Fisher said. It was the worst game of the first week of the season, and it might be. “So we’re disappointed in what happened last night, but as the week goes on, the enthusiasm and the excitement is going to grow”. Matt LaPlante brought his family in for dollar ice cream cones, “I love it I’ll come every time and bring my family and kids and everything and have a good time”. Otherwise, the Rams couldn’t get any of their major offensive weapons going. “We just didn’t execute for him”. They ended the season 5-11, and hope this year goes better moving forward. Cornerback E.J. Gaines (thigh) and receivers Pharoh Cooper (shoulder) and Nelson Spruce (knee) remain out of practice.

Gurley didn’t participate in the Rams’ brief workout Wednesday after carrying the ball 17 times for 47 yards in the opener.

Asked why he waited until the first game, and didn’t take action during the preseason, Britt said, “It’s a big stage”. On Monday night, he showed those same flashes of athleticism and confidence that helped him win the starting job over Colin Kaepernick this summer.
