They said the BBC had “nurtured the show from its infancy” to give it “warmth and charm”.

However, discussion behind the scenes and online hint that the bakers may follow Mel and Sue by choosing to bow out of the Bake-Off before the next series airs.

Love Productions had said it had been “unable to reach agreement” with the BBC, which has broadcast The Great British Bake Off for six years.

“It’s really hard to say what it will be like on Channel 4 but all of us fans just want it to be as it is”.

Asked by The Times about whether or not she had been asked to host Channel 4’s new acquisition, series six victor Hussain joked: “I’m glad you addressed the elephant in the room”, before confirming that no approach had been made.

The new deal will allow the production company to earn significantly more money, and since Channel 4 is supported by advertisements, they will have an easier time earning it back than a publicly-funded station.

The first Bake Off programme set to be broadcast on Channel 4 will be a celebrity version of the show in 2017, in aid of Stand Up To Cancer.

According to The Sun, Sue’s partner Anna could land the show. Commenting on speculation they might leave, Kate added it would be an “utterly different show”.

Discussing the twitter reaction to the GBBO news, Holly and Phil confirmed that despite bookies offering 100/1 odds of them being picked as hosts they wouldnt be leaving ITV and it was all just a big prank.

TV presenter Rylan Clark-Neal wrote that he too was “gutted” and that Mel and Sue “made that show”.
