Mayor calls New York City explosion a bombing

The explosion, which seriously injured at least one person, happened on West 23rd Street late Saturday in an area frequented by shoppers and diners.

Multiple people were injured when a dumpster exploded in Manhattan Saturday night, WCBS reported. Most of the injuries were minor. – New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio described the explosion that occurred Saturday night in the city as a “very serious incident” and confirmed that “initial indications (show) that this was an intentional act”.

The cause of the blast remains unknown. The NYPD tweeted at about 2:24 a.m. ET Sunday that, the “suspicious device on West 27 Street” had been safely removed by the bomb squad.

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton said she had been briefed “about the bombings in NY and New Jersey and the attack in Minnesota”. The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms said a NY arson and explosives task force had responded to the blast.
