‘Sound of Music’ actress Charmian Carr dies at 73

Actress and singer Charmian Carr, best known for her role as Liesl, the eldest Von Trapp daughter in the film version of “The Sound of Music”, died Sunday.

At age 21, the actress portrayed Liesl von Trapp in the 1965 film musical “The Sound of Music“.

Carr only starred in one other film, appearing opposite Anthony Perkins in Evening Primrose (1966).

Kym Karath, who played Gretl, the youngest of the von Trapp children, wrote on Twitter: “It is with infinite sadness that I share the tragic news that the precious & exquisite Charmian Carr, attractive Liesl, has passed away”.

Steve Hughes, whose company manages the website wrote: “My name is Steve Hughes, and my Company has been managing Charmian Carr’s website for many, many years”.

Actress Charmian Carr has died aged 73 her publicist has confirmed to TMZ.

Carr went on to become an interior designer in southern California.

“Carr was best known for acting, but much of her life revolved around her family and her interior design business”.

After starring in The Sound Of Music and Evening Primrose, she made a decision to stop acting altogether to raise her family and focus on her design business. Through the years the actors who played the children in the movie all kept in touch and communicated often. “She will be forever missed”, they wrote.

“I tell people that they should consider sing-along Sound Of Music like going to a therapist”, she told the Associated Press before a 2005 appearance. She appeared at various sing a longs throughout the USA over the years.

Tributes are flowing for the star on social media, who is survived by her two daughters and four grandchildren.
