Carrick should partner with Pogba in Manchester United midfield – Scholes

“In the Premier League we were playing with Wayne Rooney as a number 10, and y we played with Schneiderlin in front of the back four [against Feyenoord] and we gave him [Pogba] more freedom to occupy other kind of spaces”.

Paul Pogba has endured a hard return to life at Manchester United and things could be about to get a whole lot trickier – after former Liverpool man Dirk Kuyt revealed he was praised by the world’s most expensive player, as Jose Mourinho’s suffered defeat at the hands of Feyenoord on Thursday.

“Mourinho needs to find the right partner or partners”, Scholes told BT Sport.

Red Devils legend Scholes believes Pogba has advised the midfielder to shift his focus onto what made him stand out in Italy. “It is normal after the first game he has a little decrease”.

After impressing on his debut against Southampton last month, the France worldwide came under fire for disappointing displays in defeats to rivals Manchester City and Feyenoord. A Luke Modric or a Toni Kroos, and I think these players are available.

“Just keep it simple for now”.

“He’s got so much pace and power”.

Mourinho plans to make Pogba adapt, though, to each match and certain circumstances in his role at United. “I’d have liked to see Michael Carrick tonight”.

The French global spent four successive years with Italian giants Juventus, winning back-to-back league titles while playing alongside midfield greats such as Andrea Pirlo as Scholes has warned that we have to “remember he came from a brilliant team at Juventus. If you are an honest player, he is going to be an honest manager with you”. They probably need to go into the transfer market for somebody like that.

He was roundly criticised for his display in the defeat to Manchester City last weekend, in a showing that lacked discipline and positional sense. I think Man United has to show every game, every game, every competition. Michael’s capable of it but I still think they need a controlling midfielder, who can control where Paul goes and can control a game of football.
