McGregor and Diaz to Face Disciplinary Action for Bottle Throwing Incident
The UFC 202 press conference featuring Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor was wildly entertaining, but the two fighters may have to pay for their bottle-throwing shenanigans. Individual complaints have been filed by the Nevada Attorney General’s Office, alleging that the behaviour of McGregor and Diaz was “detrimental to a contest or exhibition of unarmed combat”.

Commission executive director Bob Bennett would later reveal the severity of the situation during an interview with MMAFighting. “Not indicative of the way professional fighters should conduct themselves”. Tempers began to flare as both men continued their verbal assault on one another before a water bottle was tossed in the direction of McGregor’s team. The next NAC meeting is scheduled for September 29 and, sources said, another one could be set for October 10.
A ruling is likely to be made over the next month and both fighters could face fines of 10 per cent of their respective purses.
This is not the first time that the NAC has taken action against fighters who have disrespected or acted against the rules during press conferences.
While the incident undoubtedly increased the hype surrounding the fight, UFC president Dana White “guaranteed” that McGregor and Diaz would get into “big trouble” and now it appears they will.

The Irishman eventually emerged victorious via a majority decision from the judges. The NSAC will surely take a big piece of the bank that McGregor and Diaz brought in, yet the prospect of yet another record-breaking third fight will soften the blow of the fine they’ll face at their hearing.
