DEVELOPING: Explosion rattles Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan
Crime scene investigators work at the scene of Saturday’s explosion in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, in New York, Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016.

“It tells me that it was a rather large explosive device that someone built and someone detonated and caused the injury of dozens of people”.
Remaining circumspect about the exact nature of the explosion in Chelsea, Mr De Blasio said early indications were that it was “an intentional act”.
According to one federal law enforcement official, devices in both explosions included cellphones, but the New Jersey device contained evidence of a black powder explosive.
Federal Bureau of Investigation investigators will examine remnants of the bomb plus an unexploded device found four blocks away as well as a pipe bomb that exploded about 80 miles (130 km) away in New Jersey on Saturday to see if they were connected, officials said.
The bomb exploded in the Chelsea area of New York City, a neighourhood characterised by its art galleries and nightlife.
“We’re not going to let them win”, Mr Cuomo said at the scene.
On Sunday, the New York Joint Terrorism Task Force began investigating the bomb in New York as possible terrorist acts, as well as a similar blast in New Jersey.
Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey said today that no evidence had yet been found linking the pipe bomb in his state with the later explosions in NY.
Investigators on Sunday sifted through blast remnants, examined video and scoured the scene of an explosion that wounded 29 people in Manhattan, attempting to establish if there were any links to global terrorism.
An AFP photographer said there was lots of debris, including rubble and glass on 23rd Street, where the explosion happened. Three law enforcement sources described the secondary device as a pressure cooker with items attached.
A press conference was held at New York Police Department’s headquarters on September 18, following an explosion in Manhattan which injured 29 people on Saturday evening.
All 29 people who were wounded have been treated and released from hospitals, officials said.
On Saturday, way before officials confirmed the cause of the explosion, Trump said it had been a bomb.
He said that he is in contact with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie regarding an explosion that took place yesterday in Seaside Park, New Jersey, during a 5K race, but said that the explosive devices used were “different”.
“Thankfully, none of these are life-threatening injuries and the 24 patients that have been removed are not in serious condition other than the one patient with a puncture wound”, NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill said a press conference.
What we know: There were 29 victims injured in the explosion. He said the blast was so powerful that his chest was sore for seven hours, and it took 90 minutes for his hearing to come back.
The explosion occurred on West 23rd Street around 8:30 p.m.in an area frequented by shoppers and diners.
