Mayawati, in a statement, also alleged that the state was witnessing “jungle raj”, there was no development and the people were exhausted of the “goonda raj” (hooliganism) unleashed by SP workers.

While Shivpal Yadav supporters are angry that he has not been given the PWD portfolio, they also fear a parallel centre of power – chairman of the state parliamentary board – has been created which, they say, will create problems in the future during the distribution of tickets for the forthcoming state assembly elections.

Last night, he announced that his disgruntled uncle will be given back his portfolios and Gayatri Prajapati will be reinducted as Cabinet minister, issues which had triggered an all-out war between the two.

Earlier, Shivpal Yadav advised Akhilesh Yadav not to be egoistic and gain more experience in politics.

The truce was arrived at after repeated parleys Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav held with the sparring duo, as their followers came on to the streets with demonstrations in their support. Supporters of Akhilesh Yadav also tried to stop the auto of Shivpal Yadav who was headed to the residence of Mulayam Singh, giving his security men a tough time in clearing the road for the cavalcade. “The drama was enacted by Mulayam to show upper hand of son Akhilesh”, she said.

Arvind Yadav said that Shivpal Yadav is state president of the party and he has the right to conduct an inquiry.

Akhilesh Yadav later appealed through the media that banners, hoardings and posters along with sloganeering should be stopped with immediate effect. “I will certainly say that much to the national president whom I like”. “I am a player.have played football and cricket also.I don’t score self goal”, he said. “It’s election time and everyone should go to booth level and spread awareness on the good work done by the government”.

“Wherever the youth go, the direction changes. We have a great organisation”, he said.

When asked about his meeting with Shivpal, Akhilesh on Saturday said in a lighter vein, “You (reporters) can say anything”. “In 2012, Shivpal opined that I should become the chief minister for the fourth time, and Akhilesh must be crowned only after the 2014 Lok Sabha elections”. The SP supremo also lashed out at the chiefs of the party’s front organisations – Lohia Vahani, Mulayam Singh Yadav Youth Brigade, Chhatra Sabha and Yuvjan Sabha – and asked them not to indulge in such protests and instead, work “on the ground” to strengthen the party. On intervention of Mulayam, Akhilesh directed youth workers to meet him at his residence and he himself reached uncle Shivpal’s residence to “congratulate him”.
