Mets, Tim Tebow agree to minor league contract

The contract includes a $100,000 signing bonus. Tebow hit three homers during the first round of batting practice, including one that was estimated at 400 feet.

Alderson acknowledged that when Tebow held his workout, not “all the boxes checked off” with high ratings. It’s a little bit amusing, makes baseball sense and even kind of fits the Mets’ ethos. “I appreciate Mr. Alderson understanding that I have my word to it and I have to fulfill it”.

“As an organization we’re going to provide that development opportunity for Tim, but I think at the same time over the course of the development we’re going to benefit as well from his presence among our players”.

Tebow shares an agent – Brodie Van Wagenen – with Yoenis Cespedes, who has an opt-out clause he can exercise after the season.

This is Tebow’s second go-round with a NY team.

Alderson replied that that was not the case, although that will not quiet speculation that it is.

Tebow hasn’t played organized baseball since high school but has been working out with the former Yankees and Diamondbacks catcher Chad Moeller since May. But 12 years ago, Tebow was a.494-hitter and all-county outfielder.

“Tim is fully committed to his role at SEC Network and ESPN this fall”, ESPN senior vice president of event and studio production Stephanie Druley said in a statement, per The Big Lead. During Thursday’s conference call, he said his success would be measured in the effort he now makes in his transition to baseball. I love doing (television work) and it’s something I’ll continue to do in the fall. In 2017? A trip to spring training – perhaps with a major league camp invite – and then a likely assignment to the Mets’ Class AA affiliate in Binghamton, N.Y.

Tim, 29, became the latest member of the Mets’ family on September 7, per USA Today, and he’ll now head to the Instructional League. I want to be someone that pursues what I believe in and what I’m passionate about, and a lot of people will say, ‘Well, what if you fail?

Tebow is a professional baseball player.

Tebow becomes the latest star from one sport to try to translate his athleticism to another. After all, Jordan got himself a contract with the Chicago White Sox in 1994 and moved straight to Double-A-no “instruction” necessary. So while it’s incredible to see a former National Football League player switch sports, Tim still has plenty work ahead of him before he makes his debut with “The Amazin’ Mets”.

Alderson cited pitcher Seth Lugo, a 34th-round draft pick, and infielder T.J. Rivera, who wasn’t drafted, as examples of long shots who reached the major leagues with the Mets.

Prior to moving to New Jersey, the New York Jets used to share their playing field at Shea Stadium with the New York Mets, but during that time, the two teams did not share any of their players.
