Jennifer Quigley, an advocacy strategist for nonprofit refugee protection group Human Rights First, said that, with the increased quota of refugee acceptance, the Obama administration is sending a message to other countries to accept more refugees as well.
The Obama administration recently reached its goal of accepting 10,000 Syrian refugees this year, but it has not detailed how numerous 110,000 refugees to be allowed in next year should come from Syria.
At least 11 million people have fled Syria as the civil war marks its sixth year of social conflict. Some governors filed lawsuits to stop refugees from coming to their states; they lost.
The Obama administration is again saying it plans to admit more refugees – and presumably more Syrian refugees – which could have a direct impact in MI.
While he applauded the increase to 110,000, Doyle said the USA still has to do more the offset the strain elsewhere, especially in developing countries where most refugees and migrants are living.

The announcement will be formally announced by President Obama at next week’s United Nations General Assembly meeting during a summit on refugees. Majority ended up in refugee camps in Thailand and have been resettled in countries around the world, including the U.S. The organization has resettled 70 Syrian refugees so far this year. Concerns about refugees have played into the broader debate about immigration in Europe and were a major factor in Britain’s recent vote to leave the European Union. A Brookings Institution survey taken in May found that when asked an open-ended question about how many the US should resettle in 2017, the median answer among Democrats was 15,000, and the median answer among Republicans was just 10,000.
