Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross said police found what he called a “rambling” note at the scene of the Friday overnight rampage that police believe was written by the gunman and that expressed hatred toward law enforcement and named a probation officer.

Police said that at about midnight Saturday, officers noticed two men apparently smoking marijuana on South Street, an area packed with restaurants, shops and clubs.
Media reports however said that the shooter left a note expressing hatred for police.

“She didn’t hear him say a word, just walked up on her and started firing”, Ross said.
The shooting occurred at about 11:20 p.m. Friday when a man approached a police vehicle and fired through the window at Sgt. Sylvia Young, who was sitting in her cruiser at 52nd and Samson streets in west Philadelphia, police said.
He added that “obviously he was hell-bent on hurting a lot of people – we still aren’t absolutely clear as to why”. A few blocks away, a young woman and her boyfriend pulled up to her apartment.
He said police believe the gunman acted alone in the violent events, which he described as “completely freaky”. Ross said he “would have no difficulty” believing that mental illness was involved in Glenn’s actions.
That suspect was killed by police, but not before he shot another officer in the leg. Police did not fire a shot during Sunday morning’s incident. Police spokeswoman Jeanne MacKenzie said she believes the officers’ dash cameras might have captured video of the shooting.
Aside from the officers, the identities of the other people injured in the spree were not immediately released. A 25-year-old woman among those shot later died. The 25-year-old woman, who was hit seven times, was pronounced dead just before 2 a.m. Saturday, police said.
Police say Glenn went on to the Maximum Level Lounge nightclub, shooting a security guard and even using a woman as a human shield before eventually shooting her in the leg.
