Miller’s sack-strip leads Broncos past Colts 34-20

There was a definite Dan Reeves feel to the offense late in the game. Well, getting off to a more consistent start wouldn’t hurt. That stalled the march, and the next two series ended in three-and-outs. Anderson contributed 47 yards and a touchdown in four receptions.

Time after time, the Colts ripped the Broncos’ hearts from their chests.

That Del Rio is a defensive specialist and his “D” can’t even be categorized as uninspiring is the bigger issue today in Oakland for a unit that invested $83.5 million and a first-rounder who can barely get on the field this offseason. The Broncos need to improve in short yardage situations, but that will come.

Wade Phillips poked around the edges trying to solve the quarterback mystery that has stumped the Broncos’ defense for three years. Last season in Week 9 against Denver, he helped the Colts to a 17-0 lead in the first half, finishing 21 of 36 for 252 yards on the way to a 27-24 win.

Luck didn’t have to watch Denver’s defense almost as closely as the league’s disciplinarians did during the week to know how Denver’s defense can put a serious hurt on the quarterback.

That’s left Denver’s best defender with no question about Luck’s grit.

“As a quarterback you have an obligation to be on the field”, Luck said. “You can turn on the film and see that”.

“They made a good play”, Luck said. “He’s one of the toughest guys I know”.

This tends to be quite an interesting match as the Broncos will look to build off of their win over the Panthers while the Colts suffered a shootout loss to the Lions last week.

With nice field position, the Colts pushed into Denver’s side of the field and left with three points after Adam Vinatieri connected from 48 yards out. But, the Colts seem to have nothing but bad luck attached to them as players just continue to fall with injuries.

The back end, the second level and the third level, they’ve got speed, athleticism and they’re very, very deep. They create some vertical run lanes in your defense, and there are seams in there.
