Investigators scour NY blast scene

As first responders arrived in Chelsea, reports surfaced of another explosive device on 23rd Street between 6th and 7th avenues. Police recovered the device and planned a controlled detonation as part of their continued investigation.

They said the device has been rendered safe and that a forensic examination of the device will be conducted at the FBI Laboratory at Quantico, Virginia.

The apparent bomb exploded outside a building in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood, where some of the city’s most popular restaurants and bars are located. Twenty-nine people were injured in that blast.

In the video, the man leaves the duffel bag where police later found an unexploded pressure cooker.

Officer Bressack with the NYPD’s Strategic Response Group told Xinhua that he and his colleagues were called in for duty shortly after the blast occurred, and rushed all the way from Queensboro to the scene.

Downtown LA is an especially busy place Sunday, with the Rams playing their first home football game in 22 years at the nearby Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

The self-professed bomb maker goes on to explain his motivations for causing the explosion in NY saying he violently opposes the discrimination felt by minority groups in the U.S.

As terrifying and destructive as the bombing was, it could have been worse, law enforcement officials said. And who was behind the blast?

“There is no specific and credible threat at this time from any terror organisation”, he said.

Mr Cuomo said: “Whoever placed these bombs – we will find them and they will be brought to justice”.

“This is one of the nightmare scenarios”, he said at a news conference on Sunday.

Local authorities have said they believed the explosion, which injured 29, was an “intentional act”, but declined to answer questions about the cause at a news conference that began about two hours after Trump spoke.

The weekend’s attacks in New York, New Jersey and Minnesota have put national security squarely back in the centre of the U.S. presidential election.

“ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack in Minnesota, and this should steel our resolve to protect our country and defeat ISIS and other terrorist groups”, Clinton said in a statement.

Only 32 US civilians died from terror attacks worldwide in 2014, the latest year for which data are available, according to the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism. They have been treated and released from a hospital.

Meanwhile, the Federal Bureau of Investigation is evaluating posts made to Tumblr from someone claiming to be the perpetrator. The device is connected by silver duct tape to a small device attached to the outside of the pressure cooker. That’s what they want to do.

Here’s the latest, based on details authorities have revealed so far.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said then that it was “too early to determine specifically what the incident was caused by” and that the investigation was still underway.

Caldwell reported from Washington.

Pressed to respond to the governor’s comments, de Blasio said, “Let’s let the law enforcement experts draw the conclusions”. Several people can be seen passing out of view seconds before the explosion.

Update: Approximately four blocks from the initial blast law enforcement uncovered a suspicious device. Meanwhile, an explosion in a trash can near a Marine Corps charity race route in New Jersey earlier Saturday is also being investigated by the Joint Terrorism Task Force there as possible terrorism.

What we know: There were 29 victims injured in the explosion. Most of the injuries were minor.

The additional troops were deployed “out of an abundance of caution”, the governor’s office said.

The disposal unit later removed the device from Manhattan for analysis at a specialised facility. Mayor Bill de Blasio ruled out any terror connections, but called the blast an “intentional act”.

An FBI official says investigators are viewing the attack at Minnesota as a possible act of terrorism.

Witnesses say the explosion at about 8:30 p.m. blew out the windows of businesses and scattered debris in the area.
