Is AJ Green The Best Wide Receiver In NFL?

The Jets’ defensive front was about as dominant as any unit in the National Football League on Sunday, led by Leonard Williams, who had 2.5 sacks and five quarterback hits. The whispers about whether Revis’ shutdown skills have suddenly diminished have also grown louder.

When pressed later, he snapped: “I’m not going to talk about it”. I guess you go with what works, but I still lean toward letting one guy stay in so the line can develop some chemistry. It’s just small, technical things and that’s why we have corrections.

“It all starts with Andy and the way he conducts the offense”, receiver A.J.

It was easy to point the finger at the cornerback, but it wasn’t entirely Revis’ fault.

Notes: The Bengals play at Pittsburgh on Sunday, trying to open the season with two road victories for the first time in their history.

The Bengals recognized that the Jets couldn’t stop Green and got him the ball as often as possible. “I’ve got two days of practice before Buffalo, and we’ve got to move”.

“I can take a punch on the chin”, Revis said.

Buffalo Bills coach Rex Ryan, who coached Revis from 2009 to 2012, laughed when asked if Revis has slipped.

“You have to understand (something) about me”, Bowles said. “And you bounce back. We have a game Thursday night”.

“I’m very confident”, he said.

“I don’t know what pressure is”, Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall said. But still to come in 2016 are the likes of Sammy Watkins, Doug Baldwin, Antonio Brown, Larry Fitzgerald, Josh Gordon, Jarvis Landry, Julian Edelman, and T.Y Hilton.

After getting down to the 4 on its next drive, NY stalled with two incompletions to Brandon Marshall and a catch for no yards by Bilal Powell. Revis was covering him for most of those receptions.

To Revis’s credit, it’s impossible for a cornerback to cover a receiver forever, so what about that Jets’ front seven that’s supposed to be getting to Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton? And, they’ve got plenty to clean up in a hurry.

But for most of his 10 seasons, Revis has been nearly automatic when it comes to keeping other teams’ top receivers off the stats sheet and out of the end zone. In the final minute, with Revis playing several yards off him, Green had no trouble corralling an 11-yard pass that set up Mike Nugent’s game-winning 47-yard field goal.

Making Revis Island look more like Revis Port.

“It probably wasn’t one of my better games”, Revis said after the game. That’s where he’d be coming down from.

“I’m not looking for another chance to do anything but win games”, he said.

“Yeah, some of it comes back just in terms of things that I think I could’ve done better”, Fitzpatrick said.

Both Revis and Forte have tall tasks for older players on Thursday as they and the Jets will face the Bills in Orchard Park on a short week (Thursday, 8:25 p.m., CBS). NY running back Matt Forte was able to pick up 96 yards on 22 carries, as well as 59 yards on five receptions.

“We know what we have and we came out and proved it today”, said Leonard Williams, who had 2.5 sacks. We don’t have time to talk about it now. “Certain games will require that”. Revis perhaps had a little more edge. “It’s a long season”.

The Jets’ defensive line had a big day, and it gets a key player back against Buffalo when Sheldon Richardson returns from a one-game suspension. LB Jordan Jenkins (calf) and QB Bryce Petty (right shoulder) did not practice, and neither is expected to be available Thursday.
