Trevor Bauer issues apology for beaning Ian Kinsler in head

Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Trevor Bauer watches as Detroit Tiger trainers work on Ian Kinsler after Bauer hit him in the head with a pitch during the third inning of a baseball game in Cleveland, Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016.

Justin Upton and J.D. Martinez hit home runs to lead the Tigers to a 9-5 victory over the Indians at Progressive Field. “I don’t believe it was intentional, but this is the big leagues”. Ramirez came through as he has all year, rifling a single back up the middle to win it 1-0. “I know saying sorry for it doesn’t really change that it happened”.

Indians manager Terry Francona and a team trainer immediately went to the mound after Carrasco was hit.

Kinsler wound up being ejected by home plate umpire Jordan Baker in the end of the fifth inning due to what Ausmus called a misunderstanding.

Ausmus said Kinsler, who committed a fielding error at second base in the fifth, showed symptoms later in the game. NY (77-70) wasted 3-0 and 5-2 leads and lost for the sixth time in seven games.

“Kinsler is a little shaken”, Ausmus said.

RAYS 5, ORIOLES 2: Evan Longoria homered, tripled and scored three runs to help the Tampa Bay Rays beat Baltimore 5-2 Saturday night, blunting the Orioles’ playoff push.

Daniel Norris (3-2) gave up four runs – one earned – in five innings.

Bauer’s wildness seemed to focus the Tigers from that point on.

Justin Upton admired his mammoth 450-foot home run and then took his time rounding the bases.

RED SOX 6, YANKEES 5: Xander Bogaerts hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs, Mookie Betts had the tying single before scoring the go-ahead run and host Boston earned its third straight win over NY. Davis is in a position to become the first Indians player to lead the league in steals since Kenny Lofton led the league with 75 in 1996.

Trevor Bauer needs to pitch well for the Indians’ injury-depleted rotation as the Tribe closes in on the AL Central title.

RHP Cody Anderson will be pressed into service as the Indians’ No. 5 starter in the Indians’ injury-riddled rotation. Clevinger was 11-1 as a starter at Triple-A Columbus prior to his mid-season recall, but has pitched mostly in the bullpen. He walked one and stuck out six.

PIRATES 10-7, REDS 4-3: Former Ray Sean Rodriguez homered in both games, and Andrew McCutchen had a bases-loaded single in a sweep for visiting Pittsburgh. The Tigers are 2-13 against Cleveland and 30-21 against all other AL Central opponents.
