Team USA stunned by Team Europe in World Cup of Hockey opener
Performed by it’s innovator: Ric Flair. “He”s a guy who has just gotten better and better and better. It was just a case in which one team completely dominated and demoralized the other and the goaltender ended up having a long night.

The team put together by the United States for this tournament is not good, and while Team Europe isn’t exactly a powerhouse I can’t help but think the Americans’ performance was expected.
Europe was considered by many to be the longshots to win gold as they are a mashup of players from countries who weren’t invited on their own including Germany, Switzerland, France, Slovakia, and Slovenia but they actually have a ton of talent and solid goaltending and they demonstrated that in their opener against the Americans. Their depth is borderline unfair when you look at how many great forwards and defensemen they have.
Not this period they didn’t. “They”ll look for him to do that in this tournament.”. But that’s the kind of night the US had. Team USA thought they could get back in with a goal that apparently got in off of a shoulder.and it got called back. Pierre-Eduoard Bellemare got credit for the deflection, though the work of now unemployed Christian Ehrhoff made Jannik Hansen’s shot get to him. “I look over at the bar and there’s, literally, the whole team”, he says. He played a strong game, and finished with a -1 and four shots on goal.
New Red Wing Frans Nielsen assisted on the game’s first goal for Team Europe.
Michal Neuvirth made 44 saves for the Czech Republic. First, a quick break for the Czechs forced Carey Price to make a very tough toe save on his first touch of the game. And they did this with aplomb. One of them was Sidney Crosby (as you might expect) and the other was his linemate, Brad Marchand. “I think even guys were making better plays, and it was just a 60-minute effort”. A Patrice Bergeron goal at the buzzer sent Canada to the dressing room with a 3-0 lead at the 1st intermission.
“Pressure is a privilege.do you want to come with no chance.or with pressure”.
The second period was much slower in comparison to the 1st, with the Czechs playing much more careful and the Canadians content to keep pressing without many high danger shots to get a 4th goal, which finally got in off of Joe Thornton managing a real tricky shot to get goal #4 for Canada.
In net, Stanley Cup hero Matt Murray kept a 23 save shutout in the first game, and John Gibson went 29 saves from 33 shots against in the second match-up.
Ice hockey normality was restored in the second game of the night when Canada swept past Czech Republic, 6-0. The rest of the period was ceremonial in nature as it became abundantly clear that the Czechs weren’t gonna do jack squat against their opponent.
It was kinda pointless, is what I’m saying.
That shouldn’t be hard to do, but the same could have been said about Team USA starting the tournament with more energy and objective, something that was curiously absent. Canada meanwhile, goes against Team USA on Tuesday.
The Mounties diligently vetted Soviet players, officials and journalists who travelled to Canada for the 1976 tournament, the archival records show.
David Backes for Team USA played a mere 6 minutes, his line was extremely limtied as the US basically spent the entire game on the defending side of things or trying their damnedest to score, so let’s not worry about how he’s doing.

Start with special teams: Canada scored a pair of power-play goals and stuffed the Czechs on six attempts with the man advantage.
