List of winners of the Primetime Emmy Awards

The new way to say I love you, Emmy-style, is “you rock my chain”, which is a lyric reference from Jay-Z to, naturally, Beyonce.

Elsewhere, Jeffrey Tambor won best comedy actor for a second time for his role as a father who transitions to a woman in Amazon’s ground-breaking “Transparent”. The only category the show didn’t emerge victorious in was directing, where three of its directors were competing against each other in a field of six nominees. “British people will get that”. That trend is again evident, with “Downton” representing the only broadcast series to make the best-drama cut. “The hours you work on our show are unforgivable”, she said.

But Viola Davis of “How to Get Away with Murder” failed to repeat her 2015 best drama actress win, the first for a woman of color.

“There’s an after party?” said Kimmel, looking crestfallen. “You lost and now you’ve got to stand out here for the rest of the night”, Damon teased, “when you probably just want to go home and cry”.

He told the audience: “Thank you to the BBC who we love above all bakery”.

But the top drama acting trophies were far from predictable: Rami Malek of “Mr. Robot” and Tatiana Maslany of “Orphan Black” were the winners, both overcoming heavyweight competition. “I play a young man who is, I think, like so many of us, profoundly alienated”, he told the crowd.

“Any moment that I have to call Trump out for being an heir to Hitler, I will”, Soloway said.

“Our show started out as political satire”, she said, “but now it feels like a sober documentary”. The pause was for the now-required feed-the-guests bit, and the host brought out – on bikes, of course – the young cast from the Netflix sci-fi thriller to deliver what he said were 7,000 sandwiches his mother had made. Courtney B. Vance did some politicking after accepting an Emmy for his role in “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story”.

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to personally apologize for the current political climate”. “And I’m so glad that he liked “Veep” because his opinion was the one that really mattered”.

“Saturday Night Live” comedian Kate McKinnon, who plays Democratic US presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, won supporting comedy actress, and John Oliver’s biting “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” won the Emmy for variety talk series.

“It you run a positive campaign, voters will ultimately make the right choice”, a deadpan Bush said, showing surprising comedic timing and some self-deprecating humor largely absent during his recent campaign run.
