More than two-dozen people injured in explosion in New York City

New York City police say they’ve blown up the second device found blocks away from where a bomb exploded in Manhattan. The source, speaking on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to speak about an ongoing investigation, said the device was found inside a plastic bag on West 27th Street. According to the Times, Cuomo said the two devices from Saturday night appeared to be similar.

Andrew Cuomo Sunday called an explosion in New York’s Chelsea section an obvious “act of terrorism” and vowed those responsible will be caught.

Similar to what was used in the infamous Boston Marathon bombings, the pressure cooker device believed to have been connected to Saturday’s NY explosion is said to have included the addition of dark wiring, silver duct tape, and some kind of cell phone device. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said it didn’t appear to be linked to worldwide terrorism.

“I blacked out, and the next thing you know I’m in an ambulance”, he said. “But we do not know the motivation or the nature of it”.

The mayor says they also believe here is no specific connection to the earlier incident in New Jersey.

He also directed the state police and National Guard to deploy an additional 1,000 uniformed officers to high-profile locations across the state.

Police had said the blast in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan appeared to come from inside a large trash bin, and law enforcement sources said they have video of a man dropping something into or next to a dumpster.

The explosion, on a commercial and residential street in the district of Chelsea on Saturday evening, sent a powerful shock wave through several blocks. “Think of a jigsaw puzzle out in the street right now”, he said.

“We are in the middle of a very complex post-blast investigation”, O’Neill said. “When you see the damage, it’s incredible that no one was killed to tell you the truth”.

“We have to let this investigation unfold”, she said. That explosion caused no injuries. But he vowed that “this violent criminal act is going to be solved”.

A number of New York City subway routes were affected by the explosion, which rattled some New Yorkers and visitors on the heels of the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks. “We will not allow these type of people and these type of threats to disrupt our life in New York”, Mr Cuomo said.

He said it was too soon to say if the bombings were a terrorist act.

“Be vigilant because the police need your help and if you see anything that might be pertinent to this case, we need you to call it in”, he said.

“We are not going to jump to conclusions”, he added.

The bomb that rocked a bustling Manhattan neighborhood contained residue of an explosive often used for target practice that can be picked up in many sporting goods stores, a federal law enforcement official said Sunday, as authorities tried to unravel who planted the device and why.

The FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force was on the scene.

A sweep of the neighborhood following the blast turned up another device four blocks away consisting of a pressure cooker with wires attached to it and connected to a cell phone.
