Former Southern Miss standout Brian Dozier enjoying historic season with Minnesota Twins
Dozier’s hit nine home runs in his last eight games and 21 in his last 35 – the most in a 35-game span since Shawn Green did it in 2002 according to Major League Baseball. He struck out 10 Royals and surrendered an unearned run in seven frames August 21 but suffered a tough loss to fall to 5-9 lifetime against one of his three former teams.

The Kansas City Royals postseason hopes might be slim but that’s better then nothing.
“That’s a tough one”, said Twins manager Paul Molitor.
“We could easily have gone 6-0 on this homestand”, Royals manager Ned Yost told the Kansas City Star.
Tuesday was the 51st game since the all-star break, and Dozier hit another one, so I made a decision to dig a little on a tweet I’d seen earlier in the day from Jon Morosi.
Kansas City started the fourth inning with back-to-back hits, the second an RBI single by Morales that scored Eric Hosmer to tie the game. The double by Escobar extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
Dozier has hit a majors-most 24 home runs since the All-Star break.
We talked a lot about Dozier on the latest episode of the Touch ‘Em All podcast, which was recorded Tuesday afternoon.
NATIONALS 6, BRAVES 4: Trea Turner and Chris Heisey each homered during a five-run third inning, Max Scherzer pitched seven strong innings for his 16th victory and the Washington Nationals beat the Atlanta Braves 6-4 on Monday.
The Twins will counter with Jose Berrios, who has struggled mightily in nine starts in the big leagues. It was Dozier’s 76th extra-base hit of the season, which already puts him in second place in Twins history, with Tony Oliva’s 84 in 1964 atop the list. OF Reymond Fuentes and RHP Nick Tepesch were designated for assignment to make room. RHP Tyler Duffey pitches for Minnesota against Cleveland RHP Danny Salazar.
Butera was in the game after Salvador Perez left with a bruised right wrist after he was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning. He is listed as day to day. Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe was diagnosed with a strained intercostal and oblique on his left side.
TIGERS 5, WHITE SOX 3: Justin Upton hit a three-run home run in the 11th inning to lift the Detroit Tigers over the Chicago White Sox 5-3 on Monday for their 11th win in 14 games. Duffy has been dominant for most of the season, but has allowed at least eight hits in three straight starts.

Even with Brian Dozier taking his red-hot bat to another level, the Kansas City Royals still have the upper hand against the Minnesota Twins.
