Jeb Bush makes comedic appearance on Emmys

Smith has been nominated for an Emmy nine times.

Kimmel opened up the passenger seat door only to find the former Florida governor in a full-blown limo-driver suit, hat included.

The first sign that things would go better came with his opening taped bit, which included a Carpool Karaoke stint with James Corden and climaxed with a shockingly amusing cameo by Jeb Bush as a limo driver. Kimmel joked, “And the victor of tonight’s plus one contest: Sarah Paulson, who played Marcia Clark, and brought Marcia Clark with her tonight”. “Did you know you can make $12 an hour driving for Uber?” he asked Kimmel.

Nonchalantly eating an apple, Damon said, “I missed the last category”.

The 2016 Emmys were the most diverse in history, which might explain why you could have mistaken them for a roast of Donald Trump.

After throwing a few more barbs at the assembled audience of nominees and their guests, Kimmel set his sights on Hollywood. And during his monologue Sunday, Kimmel referenced Republican nominee Donald Trump, specifically pointing out the man in the audience who made him a television star. Burnett didn’t look terribly amused.

Jimmy Kimmel was chosen to host the 2016 Emmys, the second time he has been given the honor, while at the same time, he was nominated for Outstanding Variety Series.

It was a pattern that held out through the show, from an amusingly silly bit involving peanut-butter sandwiches to a more pointed yet still amusing joke built around using Bill Cosby as a presenter. “Probably not”, Kimmel says. “You’re a big loser, I for one am really sorry about that”.

“I’ll tell you who because he’s sitting right there”.

Even if the sandwich-sharing didn’t inspire hilarity, there were some other notable Emmy moments. He never imagined his favorite TV mom would be Louie Anderson (Louie plays Zach Galifianakas’ mother in the FX series Baskets).

This isn’t a Trump burn, exactly, but in her acceptance speech, the Outstanding Supporting Actress victor thanked Hillary Clinton, whom she impersonates on Saturday Night Live. Clinton later congratulated McKinnon on Twitter. The veteran actress won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama for playing the always-quotable Violet Crawley on the final season of PBS’ Downton Abbey.

The comic surprises stopped with the Best Actress and Actor categories: Julia Louis-Dreyfus won for the fifth time in a row for “Veep” – a repeat, sure, but a well-deserved one. Then, she ended her acceptance speech shaking with emotion as she thanked her father, who had died on Friday.

“All right, that saved us 22 minutes, what else?” Over the course of the period drama’s six seasons, Smith was praised for delivering her character’s quips with flawless timing. Well, we think he just did! Was the hall rented for another event after the Emmys?
