Mourinho’s United stunned by Watford

While Watford picked up one of their best results since returning to the Premier League in 2015 when they beat Manchester United 3-1 on Sunday, it was a mixed afternoon for Odion Ighalo. “And that’s my job”, Jose Mourinho continued.

“It was an obvious situation but it is something I can not control”. Things went from bad to worse for the United golden-boy as he was involved in a clash of heads with a Watford player, leaving him dazed for a couple of minutes.

Deeney sealed victory in the fifth minute of stoppage time, drilling a penalty into the net after Fellaini had caught Zuniga.

United are already lagging six points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City and the feelgood factor following the three wins that marked the start of the Mourinho era has been completely erased. But was I thinking that my team was ready, perfect, unbeatable?

“I was completely aware that we were not the flawless team, that we had lots of players who are not end products and can make their own mistakes”, Mourinho said.

United slumped to their third consecutive defeat following a disappointing 3-1 loss at the hands of Watford at Vicarage Road on Sunday and it is fair to state that the Red Devils now find themselves in a bit of a crisis.

United really needed their wide-men to stay high and wide because by cutting in so early they were no help to their full-backs, or anyone else.

United goalkeeper David De Gea made a superb stop from a thumping Deeney header shortly after.

“It was an action for a free-kick against Watford and obviously not a goal”.

Referee Michael Oliver did not bat an eyelid to the incident.

But, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic has looked right at home in the Premier League after just five games, Raiola’s other two clients haven’t had quite the same success.

But as the goal was scored in the 34th minute, Martial remained on the turf, awaiting treatment.

Yet Mourinho remains defiant about the way in which his team are playing – and suggested they should have even beaten Watford.

If not Manchester United could be missing out on the top-four again and face another season out of the Champions League.

When pressed about the injury later on in the press conference, Mourinho responded: “I don’t know, I promise I don’t know”. I don’t know. I just know, in that moment, he is not in a condition to carry on.

United’s first shot on target only came in the 62nd minute and with it Rashford justified Mourinho’s decision to entrust the academy graduate with a starting place.

“It’s a little crisis, you could say, because Manchester United cannot lose three games”, Fellaini is quoted as saying by SFR.
