Manchester City produced another scintillating attacking display to beat Bournemouth 4-0 on Saturday, maintaining the leaders’ 100% start to the English Premier League season after five games.
Since Pep Guardiola took charge at the Etihad, the Citizens have improved and so has their goalscoring record.
It’s still early days to predict a repeat for City under Guardiola, but the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach couldn’t have made a better start to his time at the Etihad Stadium and his team certainly has the look of potential champions.
He gave away the free-kick that led to City’s 15th-minute opener, De Bruyne cleverly stroking the set-piece beneath the jumping wall and into the bottom corner.
City’s record signing had a hand in further goals for Kelechi Iheanacho, Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan – the Germany worldwide bringing up his first goal for the club after an impressive debut in Wednesday’s 4-0 Champions League win over Borussia Monchengladbach.
The previous time De Bruyne had played at Old Trafford with Mourinho in the dugout had been in August 2013, for the Blues, a 0-0 draw where he was subbed off on the hour following a wholly ineffectual contribution from the right flank.
Iheanacho who mid week scored in the club’s UEFA Champions League win over German side Borrusia was again on target yesterday, scoring City’s second goal of the day.
It’s been a good week for Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez.
Hull was then awarded a penalty of its own, after Petr Cech was adjudged to have brought down Dieumerci Mbokani, which the in-form Robert Snodgrass coolly dispatched. Having lashed in that first with his right foot, it was with his left that he rattled a shot off the post for Iheanacho to score City’s second from close range. We’ll see on the pitch what is the best for that game.
“I always feel that my job is [to provide] an extra source of motivation but the motivation belongs to the player”.
“Of course he is one of the best there is no doubt about that but to win prizes will depend on the team winning titles”.
Pep Guardiola: “I think tomorrow he [Silva] will not be able to play, I don’t think”.
West Brom was 3-0 ahead at halftime after goals by Nacer Chadli, Salomon Rondon and James McClean.
