Microsoft’s first-party Scorpio games will run at native 4K

Microsoft’s already available Xbox One S also upscales existing Xbox One content to 4K, along with adding the much celebrated HDR effects – and results on just that are impressive enough.

It’s also much easier for Microsoft to now say that the Project Scorpio will run games natively at 4K as it’s now a year away and will run on as yet unnamed new graphics processors.

First-party games released by Microsoft during “the Scorpio time frame” will all run at a native 4K resolution on Microsoft’s new console, publishing manager Shannon Loftis has said. Both the Pro and Scorpio are set to kick off the iterative console cycle which possibly promises to end the concept of generations in the console cycle. There’s been a lot of discussion around 4K gaming as the upcoming PS4 Pro does output at 4K but after an upscaling process rather than natively processing the resolution.

However, Microsoft claims that the Xbox Scorpio will be nearly 50 percent more powerful than the PlayStation 4 Pro (six TFLOPS vs. 4.14 TFLOPS). While the specs have not been detailed, it is known that Scorpio will have six teraflops of computing power, versus the 4.2 teraflops of PS4 Pro.

Further details on the console have yet to be announced. That basically means it will be switched roles with the upgraded consoles, since regular the Xbox One mostly has upscaled games, with PlayStation 4 being able to do native 1080p.
