Bucs RB Martin injures hamstring vs. Cardinals

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin suffered a hamstring injury in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals, and it is uncertain when he will return to game action this season.

Martin had seven carries for just 23 yards so far against Arizona, with no catches yet, after punishing the Falcons both on the ground and through the air last week. He had yet to touch the ball prior to Martin leaving the game.

A first-round pick (31st overall) of the team in the 2012 NFL Draft out of Boise State, Martin has teamed up with quarterback Jameis Winston to bring prominence back to the Tampa Bay offense. The severity of the concern has been substantiated with first doubtful and then no potential to return, but the 24-point halftime deficit could have swayed the Buccaneers’ decision-making process.

Despite his injury history, the Buccaneers signed Martin to a five-year, $35 million contract with $15 million guaranteed this offseason. Any absence logged by Martin will have a subsequent trickle-down effect for his primary backup Charles Sims.
