“He is a complete unsafe monster and any time I can call out Trump for being an inheritor to Hitler, I will”, Soloway told reporters backstage after accepting her award.
It was a repeat for HBO at television’s Emmy awards today as the premium cable network’s Game of Thrones and Veep won the night’s top trophies, thwarting competition from deep-pocketed streaming services for the industry’s highest honours.
Wild horsemen couldn’t drag “Game of Thrones” from its coronation at Sunday night’s Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.
“Veep” had been up for 17 awards but took just three, including a fifth consecutive win for best lead actress in a comedy by Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Emmy victor Jill Soloway, creator of “Transparent“, told reporters backstage that Trump was a risky monster.
HBO series “Game of Thrones”, the fantasy saga based on George RR Martin’s novels, made Emmy history, pushing its lifetime total number of awards to 38 ¿ one more than “Frasier”, the previous all-time record holder. “We’ve gotten to the point where women are saying “You know what, I’m going to ask for what I want” and I love it”. “Our show started out as political satire, but it now feels more like sobering documentary”.
British comedian John Oliver, who made his name on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, won outstanding variety talk show for satirical programme Last Week Tonight. “I’d like to dedicate this to my father, William Louis-Dreyfus, who passed away on Friday”, she said.
And this doesn’t even begin to cover the most-nominated show of the night, which documents the 1994 murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman and the most-watched trial of the 1990s – “American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson”. HBO’s Game Of Thrones was again the overall victor with 12 Emmys, including nine from the Creative Emmys, followed by People V. OJ Simpson in second with nine overall.
-Mr. Robot star Rami Malek and Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany won their first Emmys ever for Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress in a Drama, respectively.
“Oh, my God. Please tell me you’re seeing this too”, said a stunned Malek, who participates in a hacking conspiracy in a series where it’s never quite sure what’s real and what’s imagined.
And “Bloodline’s” Ben Mendelsohn usurped the supporting actor title from Kit Harington and Peter Dinklage. In a video bit, Jimmy Kimmel was shown trying to get to the ceremony and encountering former GOP presidential contender Jeb Bush as a limo driver.
Supporting Actor, Comedy Series: Louie Anderson, “Baskets“.
The win for FX’s “The People v. O.J. Simpson” for best limited series was the most widely predicted victory of the night, and the show – a scripted drama recounting the American football star’s shocking fall from grace – swept up acting prizes.
“Which is why I’m also recommending we get rid of all Muslim and Hispanic nominees from the ceremony immediately”, Ansari, who took home the award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, joked.
Emmy victor Sarah Paulson, who played Marcia Clark in the celebrated show, actually brought the head prosecutor in the O.J. Simpson trial as her plus-one to the awards.
As it turns out, she won for outstanding supporting actress in a drama series for her role in Downtown Abbey, and Kimmel stepped in to claim her award.
“Because everyone in L.A. knows if you want to win, sit next to Marcia Clark”, Kimmel said.

But even when not explicitly discussing Trump, the upcoming election wasn’t far from everyone’s minds: Courtney B. Vance, who won for his portrayal of Johnny Cochrane in The People vs. O.J. Simpson, ended his brief acceptance speech by exclaiming, “Obama out!”
