MLB Rumors: Mets to sign Tim Tebow to minor-league pact

But one thing’s for sure; there is a lot of interest now that Tebow has signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets.

On Thursday, the New York Mets announced that they had signed Tebow to a minor league deal, with the 29-year-old starting his baseball career in the instructional league. Tebow, who turned 29 on August 14, will participate in the Mets Instructional League in Port St. Lucie, FL.

He will report September 18 to the Instructional League in Port St. Lucie, Florida, and test his baseball skills for three weeks against players just months removed from high school and college. He left early to enroll at Florida, beginning a fabled college football career that led to the 2007 Heisman and two national titles for the Gators.

The New York Mets have made a cross-sports splash by signing Tim Tebow.

Tebow attracted 28 of MLB’s 30 teams – only the Chicago Cubs and the Oakland Athletics did not attend – to his Southern California workout.

Tim Tebow once went 10 for 21 in a divisional playoff, so it makes sense why the Mets would want him. “I just get to go pursue my passion”.

Fans of Tebow will be excited to hear that he will continue as an analyst for the SEC Network.

Multiple reports said he appeared rusty in a sport he has not played regularly since 2005, but still showcased his athletic ability and a good eye while hitting against former major league pitchers.

Considering that he had not played baseball competitively since his junior year of high school, Tim Tebow had a relatively solid workout for scouts. And then the pursuit of it is to give everything you have and be the best you can. The ViceSports reporter in attendance also wrote “And let’s be clear: Tim Tebow is not a baseball player”. I’d say it’s probably unlikely, but that’s without any real information on his baseball background. “We are part of the entertainment industry, and I think this will add some excitement to our spring”, Mets general manager Steve Phillips said at the time. However, Tebow did not perform well against live pitching, displaying a rather frightening continuation of swings and misses, especially at breaking balls.
