“The short week is obviously going to be a little bit of a challenge but I’m really looking forward to (Thursday Night Football)”.

The Texans (2-0) showed that they are a much different team than the one that was embarrassed in a 30-0 wild-card playoff loss to the Chiefs (1-1) in January, when quarterback Brian Hoyer had five turnovers. The Chiefs last season won a playoff game for the first time since after the 1993 season – 22 years. On the first play of Houston’s second possession, officials flagged Peters for pass interference on a 27-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

Ware last season had 403 rushing yards for the Chiefs, plus 5 receiving yards, though he did also run for six touchdowns in 2015.

And while Miller was kept in check by the Chiefs – he rushed 25 times for a middling 3.3 yards per carry against a team that allowed 4.8 yards per carry in Week 1 – Osweiler and the passing game helped make the difference.

Like most football coaches, Crennell has worked up the ladder and bounced around, but everywhere he’s been his aggressive defenses have always come with him.

Texans defensive end J.J. Watt was a one-man wrecking crew with four tackles and 1 1/2 sacks. Considering the run-defense issues the Chiefs faced last week, they deserve credit for fixing this. Laurent Duvernay-Tardif is out with an ankle sprain and rookie Parker Ehinger is out with a concussion. Facing a third-and-17 at the Kansas City 42, Osweiler hit Hopkins up the middle for a 16-yard catch.

The Chiefs looked like they were headed for disaster in Week 1.

A terrific fourth quarter in their season opener masked an uncomfortable truth about the Kansas City Chiefs: Their offense has a long way to go before it can carry the rest of the team to the upper reaches of the league.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: DE J.J. Watt is coming off one of his least productive games, but it was just his first game back from back surgery. Plus, it’s hard enough beating a team twice in a row on its own turf.
