Train passengers reported being stuck on Amtrak and NJ Transit trains for hours on Sunday night, while some trains moved in reverse to let passengers off at other stations.
She declined to provide further details, but a government official and a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation told the Associated Press five people in the auto were being questioned at an FBI building in Lower Manhattan.
Surveillance video taken from three cameras at a local gym show the moment when an explosion rocks the Manhattan neighbourhood of Chelsea. Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo toured the site Sunday.
The FBI stopped a auto on New York City’s Belt Parkway in the late hours of September 18, as the vehicle was carrying five men who they believe have a possible connection to the bombing that occurred in the NYC neighborhood of Chelsea just the night before.
Langmesser said no one has been charged with any crime and the investigation is continuing. On Saturday evening, Republican nominee Donald Trump appeared to pre-empt New York City officials when he declared that a “bomb went off” in New York City before officials had released details.
Authorities are also investigating whether the two devices in NY are linked to a pipe bomb blast in Seaside Park, New Jersey on Saturday that happened before a charity race.
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio called it a bombing, but said the motivation remains unknown. “[We] are not taking any options off the table”.
Authorities said the Manhattan bombing and New Jersey pipe bomb didn’t appear to be connected, though they weren’t ruling anything out. He said the other injuries were minor, described as scrapes and bruises.
“Was it a political motivation, a personal motivation, what was it?”

Twenty-nine people were injured when a bomb exploded in New York’s upmarket Chelsea neighborhood on Saturday night, damaging buildings, shattering glass and sending shrapnel flying across the street. A pressure cooker device was also found blocks away, but it didn’t explode. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said it didn’t appear to be linked to global terrorism.
An investigation is leading law enforcement officials to believe that there are signs of a possible terror cell in the two states, according to CNN.
‘We are in the middle of a very complex post-blast investigation, ‘ O’Neill said.
The device was transported to the NYPD Bomb Squad facility at Rodman’s Neck Range in the Bronx.
As for the pressure cooker, the NYPD and FBI Bomb technicians rendered the device safe.
A second bomb was uncovered by police four blocks away and defused safely, before being sent to the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Virginia for forensic examination. Police closed several surrounding blocks to traffic. He rushed to see what had happened and found a chaotic scene. “I saw pieces of metal – not large, but not small either”.
“It’s a real quiet neighborhood – not like the center of the city or the Wall Street area”.
Chelsea resident Michelle Leifer was walking her dog in Madison Square Park when she “heard a loud boom and felt rumbling”, she tld ABC News.
“I turned the vehicle off and that’s when we heard the explosion”.
A suspect is being sought, NBC News reported. Mayor Bill de Blasio said he could be armed and risky.
New York, which recently marked the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks, is to host world leaders this week at a meeting of the United Nations.
“Tonight, New York City experienced a very bad incident”, de Blasio said at a news conference near the scene in Chelsea. As a precaution, Cuomo said he was deploying an additional 1,000 state troopers and members of the National Guard throughout New York City.

The increased policing, Cuomo said, is “just to err on the side of caution”. The vehicle in question is reportedly connected to the NY bombing, possibly one that was caught on one of the many surveillance videos from the area in question.
