May’s Party “Cannot Be Trusted On Brexit”, New UKIP Leader Says

He said: I wish them the very best of luck and my job is not to meddle.

As the crowd whooped and cheered, he said he will remain in politics touring Europe encouraging others to follow Britain out of the European Union.

How long Diane James will have as a honeymoon period is, however, open to question.

Mr Farage also stood down briefly as leader in 2009, but was re-elected the following year.

Well, in what might be the news you least expected to read today, Nigel Farage’s friend and Ukip financial backer Arron Banks said they got naked and went for a swim in the sea off Bournemouth after a late-night drinking session on the eve of the conference.

If its new leader is to fulfil her ambition to replace Labour as the official opposition, there will have to be an argument that goes beyond simple barbs about its splits under Jeremy Corbyn.

The governing centre-right Conservative Party, under its new leader May, “now appears committed to delivering Brexit while also offering policies that have always been advocated by UKIP”, such as introducing more selective schools, said Goodwin.

Ms James insisted that Brexit must mean “100 per cent European Union exit” and said UKIP’s “people’s army” must keep up the pressure on Theresa May’s Government.

He told BBC Breakfast: “Following on from me won’t be easy because I’ve been a bit dominant, and some people like that and some don’t”.

UKIP’s rise was a major factor in former prime minister David Cameron announcing and holding the June 23 referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU.

However, she admitted shortly afterwards that she had not spoken to the party’s sole MP, Douglas Carswell, for three months. She works as the chief of staff to MEP Patrick O’Flynn, who called Mr. Farage “snarling, thin-skinned and aggressive”. I never could have dreamt of achieving what we have.

“They voted to control our borders”, she told delegates at UKIP’s annual conference following her appointment to succeed outgoing Nigel Farage.

Ms James said the Brexit vote had shown what a potent political force UKIP is, adding: “We are going to confound our critics, we are going to outwit our opponents, we are going to build on our election success that we have achieved to date and do more”.

Farage said he was “right behind” James and urged all UKIP members to support her.

But Hamilton has said he refuses to “go away” and said it seems a “rather weird way to unite a party”.

Since then, the right-wing party has lurched toward disaster, losing its leader and descending into feuding.

James won with 47.4 percent of the vote, the Telegraph reported, after facing four other candidates.

Lisa Duffy, Bill Etheridge, Elizabeth Jones and Phillip Broughton are all also hoping to take the leadership.
