The big play: Where the Dolphins really lost their season opener
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson suffered a right ankle injury in Sunday’s 12-10 victory over the Miami Dolphins.

Wilson injured the ankle when Dolphins defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh accidentally stepped on him in the second half. Though substancially limited in his mobility and ability to throw off his back, right leg, Wilson never missed a play and led the final, 14-play drive to his touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin with 31 seconds to win the game.
NFL Insider Ian Rapoport said Monday morning he’s been told Wilson’s ankle injury is significant and “puts his availability vs Rams into question”.
Asked if that development was a surprise, even though Wilson has never missed a practice let alone a game in his five National Football League seasons, Carroll was his vintage, optimistic self. “We weren’t sure what he could do”, Seattle coach Pete Carroll said.
Wilson acknowledged he’s a little sore, but was adamant he’d be ready to play against the Los Angeles Rams next Sunday. Sometimes, it’s like they just want Russell Wilson to run around and do something spectacular.
Even if Wilson ends up playing, fantasy owners should start looking for a Plan B on the waiver wire.
Another catch by Baldwin got Seattle to the 2; he finished with a career-high nine receptions for 92 yards in his first game since signing a $46 million contract extension.
Richardson returns to Jets • New York Jets defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson returned from his one-game suspension to start the season for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy past year.
Carroll also said he thought Wilson enjoyed succeeding after injury.
Carroll said the team is discussing the possibility of adding a veteran quarterback.
Per CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora, the Seahawks do not yet know what the extent of Wilson’s injury is. And that was when Wilson’s been more mobile behind a more settled offensive line than he’ll have at Los Angeles.

With Wilson having his reps in practice this week closely monitored, Carroll said the Seahawks may bring in another quarterback. Foster was held 38 yards and 13 carries and no rush longer than 9 yards. TE Jimmy Graham was active and played just 17 snaps for the Seahawks. But on this day, they built a 24-7 third quarter lead before Seattle kicked it into gear. “My thing was how are we going to respond to this adversity?”
