A standalone DC movie featuring Suicide Squad’s psychotic psychiatrist Harley Quinn has been rumoured for several months, but the huge success of that film has made it even more likely. Which means Warner is still rumored to be planning an R-rated sequel and a Harley Quinn spin-off produced by and starring Harley Quinn herself, Margot Robbie.

With their production companies working together, it opened up the door for Harley to become co-producer of the film.

Throughout Robbie’s career she has worked with Warner Bros. on numerous occasions including Focus, The Legend of Tarzan and of course, Suicide Squad.

Also at LuckyChap are Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara and Sophia Kerr. It’s easy to see that Warner Bros. are looking to bring more female-driven talents and storytelling to the public, and we will not complain at all. “Suicide Squad” is directed by David Ayer. All of these characters are extremely popular with fans-especially female fans, who are already seriously under represented in superhero films as it is (although with the coming Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel films, hopefully that’s changing soon).

And among the projects she will be producing will be the Harley Quinn film, under the DC banner.

There’s no word yet on when Harley Quinn will arrive yet, but the DC movie slate is now scheduled through to 2020.

The hope for the solo Harley Quinn movie is the focus won’t exclusively be on her relationship with the Joker. However, with the pair’s relationship intrinsically an abusive one, the comics have in recent years separated the two, something a solo Harley Quinn film could also do.
