Browns could be without Josh McCown for a while after injury

The last time the Browns and Ravens played each other, McCown sustained a broken collarbone and his season was ended.

McCown was badly bruised and beaten. The Ravens come into Week 2 matched up against the lowly Cleveland Browns in a game primed to be a blowout.

But the Ravens, who gave up more yards and points in the first quarter against the Browns than they did in the entire regular-season opener to the Buffalo Bills, responded by holding Cleveland scoreless for the final 49 minutes of the game.

McCown has the weapons to hurt Baltimore, but he’ll need more than a little help from his offensive line. “My mindset is that everything will be all right and we will move ahead business as usual”.

The Browns placed Griffin on injured reserve Monday after he suffered a fractured bone in his left shoulder in Cleveland’s season-opening loss at Philadelphia.

KESSLER ON DECK: If McCown can’t play, the Browns will turn their offence over to rookie Cody Kessler.

This was not part of the plan during the off-season, when Cleveland’s new front office passed on a chance to take one of the top quarterbacks in the draft and made a decision to sign Griffin, who flamed out in Washington. His first season with Cleveland was sabotaged by injury, and time is running out on a career that began in 2002 – when many of his current teammates were in grade school. The runners only combined for 146 yards between the two games and considering they did not do well last week while Baltimore held LeSean McCoy in check, Cleveland should not have success running the ball this week. “For a guy like me, that makes me want to make a play because we have a quarterback who is supposed to be fragile”.

“He’s going to be awesome Sunday”, receiver Terrelle Pryor said, via the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The Ravens have a very good run defense and they have a rejuvinated pass rush, so he’s going to have to be sharp and as effective to overcome this improved Ravens team. They go and they grind. I believe there were about two or three periods the ball didn’t touch the ground (in Thursday’s practice). We want to create that process now for the young guys and for ourselves because obviously we plan to be successful and that goes both ways. “That is my mentality”.

Still, the sight of him taking hard hits and getting back up time after time furthered their admiration for him. “We just have to keep him healthy”. So we’ve got to do more. So let’s get into more of a groove of trying to get some chunks.
