The People v OJ Simpson: American Crime Story was the biggest victor at the Primetime Emmy Awards in the United States on Sunday night, with Game of Thrones, Veep and Transparent also honoured in a number of categories. Comedy Central won the best variety sketch series award for Key & Peele, which is now off the air.

The dramatic retelling of the football star’s murder trial was honored as best limited series and writing, and earned awards for stars Vance, Sterling K. Brown and Sarah Paulson.

HBO repeated the rare feat it accomplished for the first time previous year tonight at the Primetime Emmy Awards, winning both Best Drama Series with Game Of Thrones and comedy series with Veep.

Game of Thrones conquered the Emmy kingdom Sunday, honored as top drama for the second consecutive year and becoming the most honored prime-time TV series ever on a night of surprises and sharp political jabs.

There were also two wins for another comedy series, Transparent: Jeffrey Tambor was named Best Comedy Actor and the show picked up one of the directing awards.

Simpson prosecutor and her “American Crime Story” character Marcia Clark as her plus-one to the ceremony. Actors, such as Game of Thrones star Kit Harington, looked dapper in fitted suits.

Combined with its 12 wins at the Creative Arts Emmys last week, the 18 total wins for FX are a record for a basic cable network.

The Game of Thrones won most of the main and technical categories like best series, best writing, best direction et al.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus won the best comedian actress award for her epic role in the comedy show “Veep”.

-Sarah Paulson was another first-time victor for her role as Marcia Clark in The People v. O.J. Simpson.

Louis-Dreyfus ended her speech by dedicating the trophy to her father, who she said died Friday.

“I think that “Veep” has torn down the wall between comedy and politics”, she said.

John Oliver was a victor for his weekly comedic news commentary program “Last Week Tonight”, giving HBO its first Emmy in the variety talk series category since “Tracey Takes On.” was honored in 1997.

Game Of Thrones had a record-breaking night at the Emmys, where the stars of The People v OJ Simpson: American Crime Story were honoured with a host of acting awards. Live’s Thomas Kail for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special.

“Sherlock” was named Best Made for TV Movie for its special episode “The Abominable Bride“.

David Schwimmer, who played Robert Kardashian in the series, was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series.
