Before speaking out about her father’s passing, Julia’s speech had a lighter tone.

Louis-Dreyfus was quite emotional during her acceptance speech – which she concluded with a dedication to her father, William Louis-Dreyfus, who passed away Friday at the age of 84. “Our show started out as a political satire but it now feels like a sobering documentary“, she quipped, in an oblique reference to the presidential campaign.

“Oh my god. Please tell me you are seeing this too”, said a stunned Malek, 35.

She also broke the news to the crowd that her father, William Louis- Dreyfus, died on Friday.

“Game of Thrones” took home three awards and now holds the record for most Emmys for a scripted series with 38 wins, including awards not announced during the primetime show.

Since Veep debuted in 2012, Louis-Dreyfus has had a firm handle on the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy and it doesn’t look like she’s going to let it go any time soon.

As far as comedic actors go, there are few better than her.

Louis-Dreyfus apologised for what she called “the current political climate”, seven weeks before the presidential election. It is the first Emmy win for Maslany, who plays multiple characters in the BBC America series.

Host Jimmy Kimmel also pulled no punches, at one point referring to Trump’s wife Melania as “Malaria”.

“He is a complete risky monster and any time I can call out Trump for being an inheritor to Hitler, I will”, Soloway told reporters backstage after accepting her award.

Actress Sarah Paulson, who is nominated for best lead actress in a limited series, was joined at the show by Marcia Clark, the prosecutor she portrayed in the People vs OJ Simpson: American Crime Story.

Louis-Dreyfus’ five-year run in the category is another record, eclipsing the four consecutive years Helen Hunt won for “Mad About You” from 1996-99.

“I have not always been a very good man, but I play one hell of a woman”, the 63-year-old comedian said.
