Scott said officials are working to stop Zika’s spread in Miami Beach. The original zone was limited to 1½ square miles from 8th Street up to 28th Street. “I spoke to him on the phone this evening”, he said. “It just worries me because all of the chemicals that they’re spraying around here”. “We’ve reached this point because of the tremendous progress with mosquito control in the affected area, including the combination of aerial application of the larvicide Bti and the adulticide Naled, and rigorous investigation of possible Zika infections by Florida health officials”.
“We understand that this has been a hard time for Wynwood residents and visitors”, CDC Director Tom Frieden said in a statement. “It’s risky in a sense that when people are inhaling Naled, or when it falls on the skin, it can lead to irrigation”.
“The potential for epidemics to occur in parts of Africa and the Asia Pacific region is particularly concerning, given that the vast numbers of people who could be exposed to Zika virus are living in environments where health and human resources to prevent, detect and respond to epidemics are limited”, said study author Dr. Kamran Khan of St. Michael’s Hospital, Canada.
“My big concern is that the people out here are tourists or guests, and not being informed about this poison that is being sprayed”, Judd Allison said. The promoted products range from wristbands to patches to stickers, and they all claim to repel the mosquitoes that carry Zika. As soon as another patient is positive with the virus, he is taken to a confinement area called the “Zika Zone” with the help of Florida Health Department and Mayor Philip Levine.

In a statement, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez said the newest update in Miami Beach “is not unexpected considering there is active transmission”.
Prior to the CDC warning, Zika cases in the United States of America had only been confirmed in people who had contracted the virus while coming from overseas.
