Andrew Cuomo (D) said on Monday morning, potentially escalating concerns about the plots.
NY and New Jersey bombing suspect Ahmad Khan Rahami is in custody after a shootout in Linden, New Jersey, according to reports.
Mobile phones were discovered at the site of the blasts in Manhattan and Seaside Park, New Jersey, but authorities said they didn’t appear to be connected, though they weren’t ruling anything out. The bomb that exploded was filled with small bearings or metal BBs.
According to NBC News’ Miguel Almaguer, Bollwage said Sunday’s device “could have hurt” a lot of people if it had gone off. It was found around 9:30 p.m.in a wastebasket outside a neighborhood pub, about 500 feet from a train trestle. The men had reported seeing wires and a pipe coming out of the package, Bollwage said. The New Jersey race was cancelled and no one was injured. One of the devices blew up as a bomb squad used a robot to attempt to disarm it.
They are now being questioned at the FBI’s headquarters in Manhaten.
But on Monday morning, police continued searching Linden and Elmora streets, close to where the backpack was found.
Meanwhile, a law enforcement official said federal investigators had discounted a claim of responsibility on the social blogging service Tumblr.
New Jersey Transit said their service had been suspended between Newark Liberty Airport and Elizabeth, with trains bound for New Jersey are being held. Both New Jersey Transit and Amtrak warned of delays following the incident.
The shootout came after a weekend of fear and dread in NY and New Jersey.
No one has been charged, and the investigation is continuing, Langmesser said.
Surveillance footage shows the bomb shatter the doors of a New York City fitness center and cause panic on the street, reports CBS News correspondent Anna Werner.
Police and firefighters are at the scene of a possible explosion in New York City, and authorities say 25 people suffered minor injuries.
The governor of NY has confirmed the bombing in NY that injured 29 people was an act of terrorism, but has dismissed any links to Islamic State (Isis).
The news of the suspicious bag at the Elizabeth station was first reported late Sunday, around the same time that the Federal Bureau of Investigation said it had taken five people into custody for questioning in connection with Saturday’s bombing in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood after a traffic stop on the Verrazano Bridge. Now that authorities have identified a suspect, we can only hope he’s caught, and that another terrifying incident like this doesn’t occur anytime soon.
New York native Lady GaGa wrote on Twitter, “In NY safe &sound saying big prayers for my friends in Chelsea”.
Earlier Sunday, investigators scrambled to find out who planted a bomb that rocked a bustling New York City neighborhood. “We’re not taking any options off the table”. It wasn’t immediately known if the blast was a controlled explosion. He said a second device found blocks away from the bombing appeared “similar in design” to the first.
Cuomo says he spoke to President Barack Obama on Monday.
Authorities found a second device in Manhattan a few blocks away from the one that exploded and removed it.
Law enforcement officials are now looking for the men to recover the suitcase as evidence.
The bomb squad was called in and a drone examined the package.
“We definitely had a bombing last night on 23rd Street and we had a suspicious device on 27th Street”, James O’Neill said.

Police have not said what, if any, forensic evidence they’ve collected from that device.
