“We do not have any specific evidence of a connection, but that will continue to be considered”, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said.

“I want New Yorkers to be confident when they go back to work on Monday that NY is up and running and we’re doing everything that we need to do”, he said.

The explosion happened in Chelsea, Manhattan, on Saturday.

A second bomb was found several blocks away on West 27th Street.

The Union County bomb squad was called in and a robot was used to examine the package that was left in a trash can near the train station.

Up to five devices have been found in a backpack in a waste basket in Elizabeth, New Jersey, according to Elizabeth Mayor Chris Bollwage.

Two men reported seeing wires and a pipe coming out of a package after finding it near the Elizabeth train station at around 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Elizabeth Mayor Christian Bollwage said the device exploded shortly after 12:30 a.m. Monday.

No injuries were reported after the explosion.

“The robot indicated it could be suspicious and it could be a live bomb”, Mr. Bollwage said, adding that police would decide how to remove it. They grew concerned after spotting wires and a pipe in the bag, and alerted police, who confirm there was no cell phone or timing device found, according to CNN. Mayor Bollwage said earlier Sunday night that he hoped everything would be cleared away for the Monday morning commute, however that was looking less likely since the other devices have yet to be removed.

Passengers said they were stuck on trains for hours Sunday night. Amtrak said 2,400 passengers were affected and trains were being brought in to other stations for people to get other transportation.

NJ Transit services were suspended between Newark Liberty Airport and Elizabeth, and Amtrak trains to New Jersey were being held at New York Penn Station.

Authorities said the Manhattan bombing and the blast 11 hours earlier at the site of a 5km race to benefit Marines and sailors in Seaside Park, New Jersey, did not appear to be connected, though they were not ruling anything out.

An Elizabeth man is being sought for questioning by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in connection with an explosion that went off in New York City Saturday night.

Shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday, the FBI and NYPD conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle of interest in the investigation, according to a statement from FBI.

The paper also said, citing unnamed law enforcement sources, that federal authorities detained and were questioning five people with possible links to the NY bombing.
