Port, along with pipeline accounts for SC gas

The supply interruption has had a dramatic impact on prices at the pump in the affected states, some more than others. Other stations experienced long lines waiting for gas. The price on Monday stood at almost $2.16 a gallon on average in the Upstate.

In the Chattanooga, Tennessee, area, the price of regular gas jumped 6 cents in one day, from just under $2.10 on Sunday to more than $2.15 on Monday, AAA reported.

Because of the fuel supply disruption, SC no longer holds the honor of offering the cheapest gas in the nation.

Authorities in Tennessee and SC said there have been no widespread fuel shortages.

They join Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri and New Jersey as the only states with prices below $2 gallon.

Chattanooga’s average price of regular gas at the pump on Sunday rose to $2.15 per gallon, its highest price in more than three months, GasBuddy said today.

Still, pump prices across S.C. are lower than the national average.

Six states have declared emergencies in order to get more fuel to impacted communities and monitor gas prices for potential price gouging.

Motorists could pay even more for gasoline in coming days, although experts say that any spike in service-station prices should only be temporary.

Before he found the third station, he wondered if he would be able to get to his job about an hour’s drive away on Monday.

In a statement early Monday, Colonial Pipeline said supplies of gasoline have either been delivered or are on their way to terminal locations in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, and North Carolina.

AAA Carolinas said fuel deliveries from the pipeline are expected to resume later this week.

“Based on our ongoing updates from Colonial, the construction of a bypass pipeline is moving forward which will soon allow fuel supply operations to return to normal”.

“We are confident these measures will help ensure Georgians’ uninterrupted access to motor fuel until Alabama’s pipeline is fixed”, Deal said in a statement on his website Friday. The damaged pipeline’s ripple effect could spread to neighboring states as supplies are diverted, DeHaan said.
