‘Game of Thrones’ rules at 2016 Emmys, wins ‘Outstanding Drama Series’ award

About 25% of this year’s Emmy nominations in the acting categories went to people of color.

Actor, Comedy Series: Jeffrey Tambor, “Transparent”. It’s an average comedy, but we suspect “pay-to-play” has something to do with the consistent wins.

There are many shows that were up-and-comers in the ranks like “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt“, “Mr. Robot”, “Master of None” and “Bloodline“. However, “The Goldbergs” should have been nominated. Drama series “The People v. O.J. Simpson” won a lot of awards too. The fantasy drama based on George R.R. Martin’s novels also won the award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for showcasing one of the most handsome and ruthless battle sequences in “Battle of Bastards”. Malek is superb in the series.

That was Rami Malek’s first comment after winning the award for lead actor in a drama at the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night. But she knew who to credit. Tambor won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role.

Winning actors from the Simpson series couldn’t hide their excitement backstage. There were much more deserving nominees, in my opinion.

Actress, Drama Series: Tatiana Maslany, “Orphan Black“.

“I think that “Veep” has torn down the wall between comedy and politics”, she said. Of those nominated, Ellie Kemper was deserving.

It started with Sterling K Brown who won best supporting actor in series The People v OJ Simpson borrowing the line “I got the hottest chick in the game rockin” my chain’ from the hip hop star’s track Public Service Announcement.

After Kimmel lost the variety talk series category to John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight, Kimmel’s “nemesis”, Damon, appeared onstage, saying, “You lost and now you have to stand out here for the rest of the night in front of everybody when you probably just want to go home and curl up and cry”.

Outstanding Television Movie was a no-brainer. The MTV Movie Awards gave Best Kiss to Twilight when it clearly belonged to Harry Potter.

The HBO fantasy drama triumphed in three categories at Sunday night’s ceremony, including outstanding drama series.

This year’s British winners included Dame Maggie Smith, who won outstanding supporting actress in a drama series for her role in Downton Abbey. It was kind of an uncomfortable joke.

SURPRISE: Louie Anderson. The veteran stand-up’s performance as Zach Galifianakis’ mother on the quirky FX comedy Baskets was critically acclaimed and commanded industry respect (it was the show’s sole Emmy nom).

Pretty much all you could hope. Why are they pushing this outdated sketch program and its players on us? He teased “People v. O.J.” actress Sarah Paulson who brought Simpson prosecutor Marcia Clark as her date.

Regina King won the award for supporting actress in a limited series for “American Crime”. “Good” because the Emmys themselves were actually pretty fun to watch: amusing in the right places, poignant in the right places, and entertaining in general from beginning to end. Miguel Sapochnik, the director of the ninth episode of season six took home the award. The political jokes are getting exhausted, by this point.

Many actors and actresses came on the stage to accept their awards with strong words about the current political climate and more than one mentioned their issues with Donald Trump as a serious candidate.

Overall, the Emmy Awards get a grade of “C”. From the show’s debut in 2004 until 2015, “The Apprentice” framed Trump as a tough, but fair, business leader who built an iconic company and was happy to give a Regular Joe a chance – or, in some seasons, put beloved celebrity contestants in their place.
