Terrifying Moment Powerful Lightning Strikes Plane At Airport

The incident took place at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta global Airport area, the US.

Passenger jets were holding in line on the tarmac when Jack Perkins caught this lightning bolt on video from inside the terminal. He posted the video to YouTube. He says the strike even disrupted his phone for a second.

Planes are hit by lightning strikes more commonly than travelers probably realize and are designed with that in mind, commercial airline pilot and AskThePilot.com blogger Patrick Smith said.

No one was hurt as a effect of the lightning as the plane is shielded by a Faraday Cage which blocks out external static electrical fields: charges redistribute on the conducting material and don’t affect the cage’s interior.

Delta has not released any official information on which Delta flight suffered the lightning strike.
