Donald Trump in ‘excellent health’, according to new doctor’s note

The one-page letter on Trump’s health was written by New York City Dr. Harold N. Bornstein, who has been the nominee’s personal physician for over 30 years. But he says Trump takes a cholesterol-lowering drug and is overweight for his body mass index, according to his physical results from September 9 at New York’s Lenox Hill Hospital.

Clinton on Wednesday released an updated review of her physical fitness and details about a recent bout of pneumonia.

Speaking to the Economic Club of NY on Thursday afternoon, Mr Trump promised to set a goal of 4% annual economic growth if he is elected President and to cut government spending on non-defence and non-safety areas by 1% a year, with a view to saving $1tr (£770bn) over a decade.

At one point, Dr. Mehmet Oz asked Trump, “When you look in the mirror, what do you see?” The first report of his health was given by Dr. Harold Bornstein, a gastroenterologist who was nearly too optimistic about the nominee’s current physical condition. His blood tests show a cholesterol level of 169, with his level of high-density lipoproteins at 63, his low-density lipoproteins at 94, and a blood pressure rate that is 116 over 70.

Trump’s is reported to be 99, or at the very top of the normal range. He noted Trump doesn’t use alcohol or tobacco and that he was hospitalized only once – at age 11, because of appendicitis. Hillary Clinton, 68, made headlines earlier this week when a case of mild pneumonia sidelined her from the campaign.

The letter is the latest chapter in a back-and-forth between Trump and his opponent, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, which has taken on the tone of a contest to see who can release the most medical information showing them fit and healthy.

Trump was interviewed for “The Dr. Oz Show”, on Wednesday, a day before the letter from Bornstein was released by the campaign. In addition, he had a colonoscopy in 2013 and a transthoracic echocardiogram to examine his heart in 2014, both of which were normal.

He told a large rally in Canton, Ohio: “I don’t know folks”.

Mike Pence on Saturday released a letter from his doctor that describes a “healthy lifestyle” and no major medical issues for the Republican vice presidential hopeful.

Mr. Trump’s parents, Mary and Fred, lived into their last 80s and 90s. “The one thing I would to do be able to do is drop 15, 20 pounds”.

The letter about Pence, the 57-year-old governor of IN, was dated Thursday and came after Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton and her running mate, Tim Kaine, also provided some details of their medical history. “It’s tough because of the way I live”, he added.
