Developing: Two Israeli police officers wounded in Jerusalem stabbing

It came after nearly a month-long lull in Palestinian attacks. The male police officer has been confirmed by the Haddassah Ein Karem Hospital to have arrived in a moderate condition and fully conscious to the Ein Karem trauma ward having suffered similar wounds.

Six attacks over the weekend – four stabbings, a auto ramming and a rock throwing – caught many Israelis by surprise, as the violence that marked 2015 and early 2016 appeared to have waned in recent months, and raised fears that regular attacks could return.

Two Palestinians who tried to stab Israeli paramilitary border policemen in the border town of Hebron were shot on Monday, police said.

Over the weekend, there have been six attacks which include four stabbings, a vehicle ramming and a rock throwing, catching Israelis by surprise as the violence seemed to have subsided after a series of stabbing attacks last year and early this year. One of the police officers was able to pull out his gun and neutralize the terrorist.

A female police officer, 38, who was stabbed in the neck, is sedated and on a respirator at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, where she is described as being in very serious condition.

The IDF moved an additional infantry battalion into the Hebron area of the West Bank following the weekend attacks, of of which occurred outside the flashpoint Palestinian city.

“There is a lot of concern here between Palestinians and Israelis that if something is not done in terms of a peace process, then these attacks are just going to continue”, Al Jazeera’s Khan said.

The spike in violence spurred the Israeli military to send troop reinforcements to the West Bank.

Jordan has demanded a detailed explanation from Israel about the killing of 28-year-old Said Amro by Israeli forces.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also warned that violence could increase in the days to come.

Palestinian shops along the same street were ordered closed by police after the attack, shopowners said.

Israeli foreign ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon confirmed the ambassador “was summoned for a talk at the Jordanian foreign ministry as part of the ongoing dialogue on the matter, including updating the details of the event”.
