Garoppolo injured, Patriots still beat Dolphins

Martellus Bennett isn’t a viable option because he hasn’t been effective so far.

The New England Patriots got some fantastic news on Wednesday. Tannehill finished 32 of 45 for 389 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

The Dolphins, who beat the Patriots in Miami in last season’s finale, had no answers for New England’s offense early and fell into a 24-0 hole as they were stymied by three turnovers.

Tannehill swapped his helmet for another before Miami’s second offensive drive of the quarter, before which he’d only competed one of four passes, and not much improved.

Jamie Collins intercepted Tannehill right after the two-minute warning, giving the Pats possession on the Miami 49, but after two runs and an incomplete pass, a punt followed. Ryan Tannehill finally found some traction and trimmed a 31-3 deficit to 31-24 with 6:06 to play. Chris Long recovered on the New England 48 yard-line. He did not return to the game, but the drive ended with a 44-yard field goal from Stephen Gostkowski.

Gronkowski suffered the injury even before Week 1 of the 2016 National Football League season kicked off, forcing him to miss the Patriots first game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Rob Gronkowski is no guarantee to suit up for the Patriots in Week 2. New England, Blount 29-123, White 4-19, Brissett 4-12, D.Foster 1-7.

HIGH RISER: Blount was active on the ground to help take pressure off both Garoppolo and Brissett. Also on that list are Marcus Cannon, Jonathan Cooper, Trey Flowers, Shaq Mason and Shea McClellin.
