The 4 Best Political Moments From The Emmys
Unlike other awards shows, the Emmy Awards rotates among the four major broadcast networks. Smith went on to win the award for supporting actress in a drama for her role as the Dowager Countess on Downton Abbey. And Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key’s won in the Outstanding Variety Sketch Series category for their work on their namesake Comedy Central show “Key and Peele”.

Game of Thrones won big at the Emmy Awards on Sunday, continuing a winning streak that began with the show’s first season in 2011.
Before Smith’s win, Kimmel chastised the veteran actress, and asked Emmy why it keeps nominating Smith-nine times-when she kept snubbing the awards anyway.
Peter Dinklage missed out on a supporting actor trophy as did co-star Kit Harington, the favorite for his portrayal of “Thrones” hero Jon Snow, when Ben Mendelsohn picked up the prize for Netflix family drama “Bloodline”. “I, along with the rest of the world, had been superficial and careless in my judgment”, Paulson said as a teary-eyed Clark listened. Though it made Joss Whedon a household name and had an enormous influence on the Golden Age of Television that followed, it only got one nomination outside of the creative categories even as the media outrage grew in fervor with every passing year.
Several stars took aim at divisive Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump, either in prepared jokes or in acceptance speeches. Veep won this award for the second year in a row.
Taylor Swift’s most recent ex-boyfriend Tom Hiddleston appeared alongside Quantico’s Priyanka Chopra to present the Emmy for Best Directing in a Limited Series.
Though it’s decidedly more low-key, the oddest of all the awards might be Louie Anderson’s win for his role in Baskets as Zach Galifianakis’s mother, coincidentally the first award of the night.
Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, teased that the upcoming season 7 would be “unbelievable” and would leave fans “really satisfied”. She thanked Hillary Clinton in her speech.
“There are so many people who want to be seen and represented, and TV has always needed to kind of speak to the masses”, she told People.
The Democratic presidential contender responded quickly with a tweet: “Congratulations on your Emmy, Kate!”
It lives on! Buddies Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel kept their hilarious feud alive during the telecast. Even that couldn’t rock Kimmel’s relentless even keel, as he made a smartly measured joke wondering if bringing down the patriarchy was good for him or not, then transitioning to a why-hasn’t-somebody-said-this-before bon mot about Transparent being a drama that identified as a comedy. After an awkward silence, Kimmel said it was a joke-the TV star embroiled in decades-old accusations of sexual assault wasn’t invited. It revised how votes are cast and counted, switching from a ranking and points system to letting voters simply check off their top choice.

The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards averaged a meager 11.3 million viewers Sunday, worse than last year’s record low of 11.9 million.
