The Sound of Music actress Charmian Carr dies aged 73

Christopher Plummer (Captain Von Trapp): Plummer is a successful actor who has appeared in films like “Cleopatra” and “A Beautiful Mind”.

Paying tribute, Kym Karath, who played youngest daughter Gretl in The Sound of Music, described her friend and co-star as “precious” and “exquisite”.

Carr’s only other major role was in the Stephen Sondheim television musical Evening Primrose.

This is in reference to one of her most famous scenes in the film, which saw Carr’s character perform her signature song. “We always LOVED, The Sound of Music, and still do”.

In addition to the industry vet’s rep Harlan Boll confirming the sad news, a man named Steve Hughes penned a note about Carr’s passing for her website.

“Charmian Carr played the oldest von Trapp child, and in some ways she maintained that role in real life – guiding, cheering, supporting and generally being there for the rest of her “sisters” and ‘brothers, ‘” Ted Chapin, president of Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization, said in a statement.

Carr was born in Chicago on December 27, 1942, and moved to California when she was 13. Her mother was a vaudeville actress, and her father was a musician and orchestra leader.

After leaving Hollywood, she married a dentist and had two children.

“Carr was best known for acting, but much of her life revolved around her family and her interior design business”.

The actress also went onto co-write two books.

She is survived by her siblings Sharon, Darleen, Michael, and Brian; daughters Jennifer and Emily; a niece Julie; and grandchildren Emma, Derek, William, and Tucker.
