The home button on Apple’s new iPhone 7 requires skin contact in order to work. Seeing as only some users are experiencing such issues it’s likely that the problem is down to a faulty batch of iPhone 7 and 7 Plus handsets.
“Allow at least five hours before charging or connecting a Lightning accessory”, Apple says in the official documentation for the iPhone 7.
Apple has not responded to requests for comment on what causes the issue.
He stated that the noise was possibly coming from the phone’s CPU and that the sound gets worse if the device is under load.
If this is true, the hissing sound might make more sense: laptop and desktop computer users are used to hearing cooling systems get louder under strain.
Among the first to point out the alleged defect, according to The Next Web, was Stephen Hackett from blog 512 Pixels.
Since then others have come forward to report a similar issue, though it remains unclear whether it’s a widespread problem with the new device or just limited to a few units. On the sealed iPhone 7, there’s absolutely no fix beyond replacing it.
Apple is now requesting users with affected phones to ship it to their nearest Apple store, for a replacement.
It is assumed that Apple might fix the hissing sound with a firmware update.

However, if you listen to Hackett’s YouTube video link of the iPhone 7 Plus hissing, it’s not something which is common on an iPhone. It’s not clear how many devices are affected, or whether the sound is always accompanied by noticeable heat radiating from the back of the iPhone.
