C.J. Spiller released by Saints; team taking another hefty cap hit
Do you want me to keep going? “I’m not going to lie to you”. So them getting used to it and one of the reasons we are outside today, it’s a little bit warmer but none the less we had some rain when we came out here and the balls were wet.

The Saints also released running back C.J. Spiller, a high-profile free agent the team signed before last season who never had an impact and was inactive for the game against Oakland. “So, I definitely don’t have any hard feelings”.
There was plenty of debate as to whether Saints coach Sean Payton would leave New Orleans after last season, even some thought that he could be a candidate to replace Tom Coughlin. A league source confirmed that it wasn’t health-related. The Saints released Spiller on Tuesday afternoon.
And if anything needs attention right now, it’s the Saints’ defense, which ranked 31st in the National Football League the past two seasons and this season has already struggled with injuries to defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins, who was New Orleans top draft choice, as well as starting linebacker Dannell Ellerbe and top cornerback Delvin Breaux. He said the main issue was Spiller’s inability to fully return to peak form after his 2015 knee injury. “You know he is going to pass it and you think you know where he is going to go with it, but he is so good at putting it in places where he knows he is going to go and he is good at adjusting, as well”.
“This guy’s a phenomenal, phenomenal guy”, Payton said.
“It’s insane how he is getting better every year”, Casillas continued.
“It was just one of these games where we knew Cadet was gonna have a big role in his position. And that was really it”. Breaux, who started 16 games in his first season and led the Saints with three interceptions, will be out at least six weeks.
That experience paid off when he convinced Greg Schiano to give him a shot at Rutgers, and then again when he joined the Saints and became their director of college scouting.
Green Bay Packers left tackle David Bakhtiari has signed a contract extension, and a person familiar with the talks said it is a four-year deal worth up to $51.67 million. “It’s really one of the challenges with six running backs on the roster”.
Spiller, 29, hasn’t looked like a first-round pick since 2012, when he racked up 1,244 rushing yards, gained 6.0 yards per carry, added 459 yards in the passing game, and scored eight touchdowns from scrimmage. New Orleans can absorb the $4.5 million cap hit for 2016 and a $2.5 million cap hit for 2017.

At just 29, Spiller is now four years removed from his sensational 1,700-plus scrimmage yard breakout with Buffalo.
